Smoking

My friend was with me all the time. We used to go to the same school. We used to play soccer on the same team in Kenya, but what my friend was doing was not right. He was smoking cigarettes a lot. In a day, he was smoking about 15 cigarettes. If he didn’t smoke about 15 cigarettes in a day, he would smoke about 10 cigarettes. The reason he started smoking was because he didn’t know what was going to happen if he smoked. He saw people smoking and that what is made him smoke. After he started smoking, we had to talk to him, me and his mother, but he didn’t listen to us. My friend was doing everything I asked him to do, but he wasn’t listening when we told him to quit smoking.

I feel so bad. I hate to see my friends getting sickness because of smoking cigarettes. I hate to see my friends having a bad disease because of smoking, like lung cancer or heart problems. I saw one of my friends smoking a lot each day. He was smoking half a packet of cigarettes and what happened at the end was that he had lung cancer. He was still young. His name was Mkomwa. He died when he was 14 years old. This happened where I grow up in the big place in Africa: Kenya.

No matter where you are, if you a smoking, you have to stop because smoking kills people. I remember when I was 13 years old, one of my friends was smoking. He didn’t stay long in the world because he was smoking a lot. He got lung cancer and by the time we took him to the hospital, the doctor said it was too late. The doctor couldn’t help because the disease got all over the body. This is true. This happened in Kenya.

This is what I learned from my friend: if you are smoking, what will happen to you in the future? I was not happy to see my friend smoking. I tried to tell him not to smoke, but he was not listening to me. If I asked him to quit smoking, he was getting mad at me. The only thing he told me was that it was like he couldn’t control himself. That is what he told me.
