On Immigration:
Many people cross to the U.S. illegally because they don’t have a green card, a visa, or a passport that can help them cross to the U.S. without having a problem. Many immigrants risk there lives to come to the U.S. to have a better life in the future, but many people don’t understand that. They think that immigrants come here to make trouble and to take the U.S. citizens’ jobs. That is not true about immigrants. They come to the U.S. to look for a job, but not to steal the citizen’s job like many U.S. citizens think. I feel that currently the U.S. government is making a lot of decisions without thinking about how the immigrants feel about those decisions.
Autobiographical Writing:
Who Was I Before I Came to the U.S.?
I was a five year old boy
I had long hair and wanted a hair cut
I lived with my grandma and brothers
My grandma always woke me up for school
I liked school, so I always jumped out of bed
And got in the shower
While in the shower, my grandma made me breakfast
My grandma would walk me to school at 7:15am
During my lunch time, I played marbles with my friends
Even though I had a few friends, I still had fun
I was really poor
Every Saturday and Sunday
I went with my grandma to her work
I tried to help her with everything I could
She used to sell tortillas and bread
My grandma had very little money for food
So she had to work really hard to have enough money
I used to hang out in my friend’s house
On Mondays after school
Sometimes my brothers used to come with me
To my friend’s house and we all played soccer
When my friend invited my brothers and me to go swimming
I didn’t want to go swimming because I was scared to drown
When my grandma took me to the store
To buy toys for my brothers and me
I saw a blue shiny bike and I could see my face in it
I told my grandma to buy the bike for all of us
She nodded her head and said it’s too expensive
I was sad because I wanted a bike
It was going to be the first bike we had
If my grandma would have bought us that bike
Instead she bought some toy soldiers for each of us
We had to take care of our toys
Those where the only toys we had in six months
I remember hearing my dad speaking another language
I became very anxious to learn another language also
So that I could speak two languages instead of one
I wanted to know how it felt speaking another language
Who Am I Now?
I am an honest and responsible person
I am involved in the school drill team
I get to wear a blue uniform
It represents my team and school
I get a hair cut almost every Sunday
To look sharp in my uniform on Tuesdays
I behave better in school because I am more mature
School is easier because my brain has developed
And I can understand things faster
I live in a better place than Mexico
Life is easier here in the U.S.
Even though I am still poor, I am not as poor as
I used to be in Mexico
I am happier now in the U.S.
I have a lot of things like
A bike, a ps2, PSP, video games, a computer and more things…
I like to go swimming
Now that I know how to swim
Thanks to my brother Luis
I like to go swimming with my brothers
We always play something while we are in the water
We play Marco polo, we play catch, we race, and we dive
We also throw a rock underwater
The first person to get the rock wins
I have a lot of friends
They all like soccer and tackle football
Most of my friends come to my house
We all play a sport (any sport)
Except tackle football
We play this sport at the park
I sometimes go to my friend’s house
We play video games or ride bikes
We sometimes go all together to swim
In the Manzanita pool close to my house
Who Will I Be in the Future?
I will go to college and become
A professional soccer player
I will play for Barcelona, Guadalajara and Mexico
And I will be rich and famous
I will also be signing autographs
And will travel all over the world
I want to create my own soccer video game
And name it Chavez FIFA
I want to train to be a pilot
And I want to join the Air Force
I want to go to combat flying an F-16 jet
I want to go on at least four combat missions
And retire when I am fifty-five
Or retire when I am a Lt. Col.
Integrity first, service before self
Excellence in all we do
These are the U.S. Air Force core values
I think I won’t struggle in the future
Because I will have a lot of education
I will have a good career and a job
I will also have an enormous house in Paris
And I will get married and have a big family
I want to have two Chihuahuas and a Saint Bernard
I want to have a Mustang and a Corvette
When I start having more money
I would like to help the adult poor people get jobs
And donate toys for the poor kids
