On Immigration:
I think that the laws are very strict for immigrants. People come here looking for a better life, but they always struggle when they are looking for jobs. Immigrants always do the hard work here in the United States, and they are not paid fairly. They also struggle to get a good job to support their own family. Sometimes they have problems because they don’t know English. Many immigrants start working in restaurants like McDonalds doing the hard work like cleaning, hoping to succeed in the future. But, if the laws continue to be very strict with immigrants, they will never reach their dream.
Many families are separated because they have to emigrate from their countries to the United States. But many people risk their lives because life here could be better than in other countries. For example, many countries are in war; in other countries there are no good jobs, so they have to come here looking for a better life. However, some people have problems getting their visas to come to the U.S.A. What many people do to come here is that they cross the desert, or pay “polleros” to cross them. But the people who cross the desert risk their lives. Many people die. People risk their lives every day to look for a better life; sometimes they get it, sometimes they don’t. Also, many people have to hide from the police because they are afraid to be deported. Plenty of immigrants have to hide because they are afraid to be deported. Life is not easy for immigrants; please, don’t make it worse for them.
Autobiographical Writing:
Treated Like One
Three children
Two adults
And one
Under age.
Treated like one
For 6 years.
Two big brothers
Living independently.
Treated like one
Treated like
The only child
For almost
6 years.
6 years missing my older brothers,
6 years living just with
Mom and Dad.
6 years being just one.
One, one, one.
I don’t really know
If it feels great
Or not.
I just know
That I missed my older brothers
For almost 6 years.
I love my brothers,
And I know
They will
And they have
To strive
For their goals.
Hermenegildo
The oldest brother
Living in Hermosillo,
Living with his Godfather
Studying in university
Since he was 18.
Hermenegildo,
Megeregildo,
Gildo,
Gildohermene.
Those are some of the ways
I like to call him.
Antonio,
The brother in the middle.
The responsible one.
Living in the U.S.A
Since he was 16
Studying High School.
Antonio
Lived with an Aunt
In California
For 2 years
And in Tucson
Living Independently
For 6 years.
Now my brothers
Are working
One in Hermosillo
One in Tucson.
Now I don’t feel alone
Because I’m living
With my brother
Antonio.
But I still miss
My big brother
Hermenegildo.
I Think I Am More Confident
I feel that I’m more confident than before because I talk more with my friends. Before, I used to be always quiet, and shy to talk to someone. Now, I don’t feel that way. Sometimes, when I don’t know somebody, I get a little shy. I just stay quiet until that person talks to me. Then, I get more confidence and I talk to that person.
I hope that someday I will be even more confident, so I can talk to people on my own. I want to get close to someone and say, “hello” or something, not just wait for people to talk to me.
I know that I have to be more confident with myself to succeed in life. But I also know that I don’t have to trust everybody; they could be lying. Maybe that’s why I just trust people that I really know like my family, my friends, and my teachers.
I want to be more confident, because, as I said before, I want to succeed in life. I want to do something important. I think that if only I trust myself, and if I am more confident, I will be someone important one day.
I feel comfortable about living in a different country, and living in a different culture. Sometimes, I miss my country, but I know that here in the U.S.A we will have a better life. That’s the reason why my family came to the U.S.A. I feel confident because I don’t struggle at school or with language.
