My mom’s hard time in the USA
In Russia, my mom had a professional job and now she is a housekeeper.
When my family was in Russia, my mom was a teacher.
She could teach many things.
My mom taught me how to read and write.
She helped us to do our homework.
She loved her job and she was happy with it.
One day we got a letter of permission to go the USA.
My family was extremely happy.
We sold everything and left for America.
My mom even left her beloved job, to start again in the USA.
In America, my family had wonderful days.
For eight months, we were sitting at home and learning English.
As refugees, the government supported us.
Overall, we had so much fun.
After those 8 months, my parents had to search for a job.
They were looking for a job every day and every night.
When they came back home, they had nothing to say.
It was a really hard time for them.
My mom would search for a job everywhere.
When she found opportunities in the newspaper,
My brother would call.
They’d ask him, “Does she speak English?”
“No, then she can’t work.”
My mom tried to get a teaching job, but her English wasn’t that good.
She had no choice but to become a housekeeper.
My mom makes beds and washes windows.
When she comes back from work, she is so tired and sad.
My mom’s life is awful, and she didn’t imagine it would be like this.
I hope our life will change.
I hope the agencies will find better jobs for refugees.
I hope the government will increase the jobs
I hope that the agencies will support us again while my mom learns more English.
I hope people will understand my mom.
My family came to America to get education for our future.
We came to America with a dream and hope, not to work as housekeepers.
