Care about your Education:

The most important thing in my life is to make my mom and my family happy. My mom is happy when I get a good grade because she knows that I did well in the classroom. My mom wants me to have a better future and live out her dreams. I agree with that because all families want their kids to have a good future. My mom did a lot of things for me. She left all her family and came to America to work as a housekeeper for me. That tells me she loves me and cares about me. I want to make the highest grades and focus in my classes. I want to have a good life.

When I am in the classroom, however, I sometimes don’t have time to do my work because of some students fighting with the teacher in class. This happens in one of my classes always. I see some students in the classroom that didn’t do anything productive, they just laugh or joke with other students. When the teacher sees them, he gets mad and starts arguing so I can’t finish my work while they talk, time passes and the bell rings. I feel very sad about some students acting this way. Everyone comes to school to learn and to develop literacy. If they don’t want to learn, they can stay home. I think they don’t know how important it is to be literate. Some students think they are cool and funny when the students laugh at them, but I do not. I get mad at them. I think they are doing this when they are bored. Sometimes I tell them to be quiet and do their work, but they just laugh at me. I feel very sad, and I feel rancor for some of the students who don’t want to learn.

I see this happen when the teachers are not strong. For example, if the teacher is nice or if he doesn’t say anything to them, they think it’s not a problem so they can do what they want. I want the teacher to be very serious so the student knows that he is serious. Then I think they will stop talking. When this thing happens, I want the teachers to tell them to go to the office so we have time to do the work or tell them to stop, sit down and don’t talk. The time finishes when they are arguing.

One boy in my math class acts very badly. The difference between us is he doesn’t want to learn or have a better future. I want to learn and to have a better future in my life. I think he comes to school to make trouble because in the classroom he says bad words and he wants to fight with other students. He starts fighting, joking and laughing with students. One time, he was dancing in the classroom. The teacher told him to stop and sit, but he didn’t listen to the teacher. We told him that the teacher was talking to him and he looked at him and said “What?” The teacher told him to stop dancing and to do his work. He sat and after a second he started talking with someone who sat next to him. The teacher looked at him and they started arguing. After that, he told him to go outside. I was despondent when I saw and heard this. I was very indignant because the boy chose to come to America, but I don’t think he wanted to have a better education because he comes to school only 2 or 3 days a week. If he doesn’t want education, he can go back where he came from and live there if he doesn’t want to do anything. I was thinking about how his family must feel when they hear about him. They came to the United States for their kids and to work and live without other family members, so I imagine how they feel. I think they are very disappointed in their kids.

Sometimes when the students disrupt the class, I just at look them and I keep working on my work because if I wait for the teacher to help me, I can’t finish my work because he is arguing with a student. Sometimes I tell the students to stop talking and to do their work, but they aren’t listening. I talk in the classroom too, but I am not arguing or disruptive and when the teacher tells me to stop, I do stop and listen to what the teacher says. I don’t like when the teacher feels mad at us. They want us to learn and get a better education, but some students don’t care about that. I think when they make the teacher mad, they feel happy because every single day if they do the same thing that makes the teacher get mad that means the student likes it when the teacher gets mad at them. I want the students to focus in the classroom, to do their work and to think about their future. I like the students when care about their education because they know that it is an important part of their life. It will help them in the future to get a better job.

To change disruptive students’ behavior and to make them care about their education, I want to talk to them about everything in their life. I will tell them to talk to me and I want to ask them what they want to do. I would like to tell them education is important to their life. I want them to think about what they want to be in their future. When they hear about what I tell them, they will understand and they will start thinking about it. If the student is not with their family, if we teach them, I think they will change too. The important thing I want to tell them is to think about their family because their parents want to see their kids when they are nice and when they care about their education. I want to try this with the students who didn’t care about their education. If we do this, it will work for us.
