TILL WHEN, DIVISION???

When is life going to change with its difficulties of people being divided? Most people practice division, but not unity. We are different, but yet equal. When I left my continent of Africa I thought life will never be the same again because people were talking about the United States in a different way. I was expecting people to be in unity, as the U.S is among the most peaceful countries in the world and has the most eclectic population I have ever seen.

Probably it is for this reason that I like to meet brand new people and know about them as I let them know about me too. But what I am struggling for is still recurring in this earth, to bring people together has become a burden to me.

I arrived in the states and enrolled myself in Catalina Magnet High School, a nice and a better place to study, wondering what will come next. For sure, all is not gold that glitters. I really thought I was lucky meeting with eclectic people so that I could make international friends, but just the very first lunch was worse than I was expecting. Most of the students from the same country or continent were at the same tables. Conversation was just between people from the same place. By my own sight, I saw that separation existed between people.

As time went by, I was really trying to figure out what was within people, but all of my efforts bore no fruit. I was trying not to spend most of my time with people who speak the same language so that I could learn more things from others. Everyone I met deserved respect from me. I was trying to respect each and everyone I met because I believe that respect is the introduction to a better future.

Intolerable behavior and division were among the challenges I was facing when I reached my new environment of studies. Things became unpleasant and disrespectful according to what I experienced. I didn’t really understand many things that were going on, like students being unfair to others, making a lot of noise while studying, using abusive language and fighting for no reason. I thought they were among the country’s rules, but absolutely they weren’t.

Wonder shall never end! For the first time ever I saw what I had never saw before. I was indignant when I saw a teacher cry because she wanted students to study. I think students benefit more from teachers than they do from us, yet students still make them run crazy. I really don’t see the reason for me to disturb teachers when they have completed their studies and I haven’t. They do everything for us to succeed, but we just try to put our differences between society. I really don’t see why we practice division. I went through a period of introspection, trying to figure out how to unite people, but one hand can’t really play a drum. I wish everybody could be anti-discrimination; then our world could be a better place for recreation.

The world exists because of different cultures, languages, and the simple color of the skin. But the skin colors have become a big challenge and usually bring people down. We spend most of our time judging people’s colors; instead of loving each other, we are still hating and ignoring. We can’t change this earth without loving.

Let’s start with ourselves; as charity begins at home we have to begin by being in unity at Catalina Magnet High School. Then, our world will be a better place. Unity is strength and knowledge is power; by achieving knowledge we must build peace, love and unity. Our school is our community. We have to build unity starting from our school; then our world will change from us. We are the generation of tomorrow; so, let’s strike the iron while it is still hot. We have to prepare for the future by being anti-division.

The world belongs to all of us, especially you and I; we are the teens, strong to secure our world against divisions. Our duty is that we have to be against divisions. We can change by being so strong and in unity. Our playing small doesn’t serve the world, we should not allow division in us. Let’s think big, and as we let our own light here at Catalina shine and unite, we show other people how to do the same. Change has come; let’s benefit in it and change our world forever, together as one.  In the same glove, we can make it. Our time is now; let’s go for it.
